Spreading Ethernet through modem router

Hi, the university accommodation I'm living in this year has internet access through an Ethernet cable in my room. Is it possible for me to connect the Ethernet cable to a modem router to get wifi in my room?

all I can say is maybe.

Your University IT department will have to confirm if they allow wi-fi connections to the ethernet port, many won't. A lot of universities have a pretty robust campus wi-fi already, and setting up wi-fi in your room will be redundant anyway, plus, dorms are SMALL - a 25 foot ethernet cable will be overkill to go anywhere in your room. The ethernet will also tend to be a least gigabit, if not faster, especially at larger universities.
