Because the amount of spam you can have nothing to do with whether or
not your machine is free of malware.

To learn about spam, see information here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Junk_Mail
http://www.mall-net.com/spamfaq.html
http://www.cauce.org/
http://www.spamlaws.com/

Also check with your ISP to see if they have spam filtering available on
their mail servers.

Because you do not know the difference between spyware and SPAM.

"NoNoBadDog" has a good point there.

SPAM is what you tend to receive via email (unsolicited emails with ads
and rubbish), SPYWARE is what you tend to receive via webpages you visit
(Popups, toolbar installs, marketing apps that collect info and relay it
back).

On the SPAM side of things ... check with your ISP. They should have a
spam filter that should collect most of it. Some will get through and
you can set up rules in Outlook to combat that. If you're running
Outlook 2003 you can use the Junk Email feature to capture the SPAM.

As for SPYWARE ... you seem to be running some of the better tools
already. Also try Microsoft AntiSpyware. It is very unintrusive but
still does a robust job.
