I have an Acer Nitro 5, and the chip in the picture cracked. I don't know if it was because of heating or anything else, and the system has stopped working completely. Is there anyway I could replace it, or more preferably bypass it? The chip's code is SR40B. Since I'm unable to post the picture I'll paste the LTT forum link. https://linustechtips.com/topic/137...-it-completely/?tab=comments#comment-14969634 LTT Forum Link

Solution
That looks very much like the chipset to the motherboard and one that handles communication with peripherals and the processor. You will need a new motherboard or if at the very least the same chipset, which is impossible. You're best off buying a new motherboard meant for your laptop...or ditch the laptop entirely since the new motherboard might cost as much as a new laptop.

As stated on that thread...you're in a world of trouble, i.e, fixing that chip is more expensive than buying a new laptop at this point.

That is a BGA surface mount thing. You can't replace this at home

How have you achieved it? By faulty USB device?
This is the chipset, and it is a very stable one. It cannot be destroyed by itself.
Replacing (the procedure is called reballing) is not recommended, because there might be other faulty components on the motherboard, e.g. the CPU which is also soldered, but much more expensive.
