I tried cloning my toshiba lap window 8 to my ssd and the hdd was in bad shape and failed in the middle of cloning. The hdd is completely gone. I put the ssd on my desk and all but the recovery partition cloned. I put in the lap and it would not boot(gave me error). So i put back on desk pc and wiped and reformatted to default. Put it in lap, disabled secure boot and tried to install Win 7 home ome. It froze up after loading files. The logo started and then froze. Need help and thank you!

Welcome,kellyman!

I'd recommend you get that failed HDD away from the laptop and clean install Windows on the SSD from scratch. Since Windows 8 was previously installed on the laptop, you should be able to use the same activation code. You should refer to MS Support for assistance with this. However, you should be able to create a bootable installation media with that same Windows 8 version on your laptop from your desktop.

P.S. Don't forget to backup any important data somewhere off-site. The fresh install will require you to format and erase all your files from the SSD again.

Give it a try! Hope it helps! :)

Already reformatted ssd on my desktop, so it should be clean right? I put it back in my laptop and tried to do install of WIN 7 home ome that i have on my desk top that is on a disk. Then it freezes after loading files. This is original software disk from windows. I have heard that ome can only be installed on one pc. I will take your advice and go to ms and get my WIN 8 back. thank you!

Hey there again, Kellyman!

Indeed, you won't be able to use the same OS product key as the one on your Desktop. The operating system communicates with the motherboard and that's where the activation code is located. However, you shouldn't be facing these freezes during the installation process itself. I'd definitely create a new bootable flash drive and attempt to install Windows on the SSD again. It is also possible that the original Windows 7 installation DVD/CD is damaged/corrupted, so this should solve the issue.
However, if the problem persists and it still freezes, you should definitely check how the SSD performs on your desktop and even run some SSD-specific diagnostic tools to check up on the health and SMART status. You might also want to check if you got the latest SSD firmware update.

Good luck and keep me posted! :)
