I currently have a 500GB WD HDD with windows and about 200GBs of data on it. I also have a 120GB Samsung SSD which has windows and vital applications. I want to keep using my SSD as my boot machine so it's much faster, but use the HDD as a game center and to hold all of my other data.

How would I wipe the HDD and remove the OS and files on it?
Do I need Windows on that HDD for games on Steam to work?

Solution
There are several options but the most common way to wipe a hard drive is to use Windows to perform a full format of the drive.

You do not need Microsoft Windows on the hard drive for Steam to work. I know from other threads that it is possible and there are instructions how to do it. Unfortunately I am not a gamer so I don't know the exact procedure.
