Greetings all, a newbie to the forum but have a question that is driving me crazy. I built my new system over the weekend and been having and issue with the BIOS recognizing both hard drives. I am using a muskin 256GB as a primary boot drive and a seagate 1TB as a data storage drive. The SSD is occupying SATA 0 and the HDD is in SATA 1. When the HDD is plugged in the SSD disappears from the BIOS and the system fails to boot. Once the HDD is unplugged, everything works fine. I am running a Asrock h97m pro4 mobo. The bios is up to date.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey there, dmcorri1. Welcome to tom's Hardware! :)

First, try out different ports and cables for the HDD. If that doesn't work, you might have to connect it to a different computer to test it for error with an HDD diagnostic tool (preferably the one offered by its manufacturer). You should also test the SSD as well, to make sure that everything is OK. Other than that, check if there's available firmware update for your SSD model and install it if you find one.
Try resetting your BIOS/UEFI. Also, make sure that the SATA mode has been set to AHCI.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
