SSD and HDD not recognised by Windows

Hi guys, I just purchased a Samsung 850 Evo SSD, and after connecting it up, my new SSD as well as my older WD Green HDD are not showing up anywhere in Windows. I can't seem to find them in Device Manager or Disk Management. They both do, however, pop up in the BIOS. The motherboard is an Asrock b85m pro4 if that matters.. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this issue. I have an 840 Evo as my boot driving which is starting Windows up just fine.

Thanks for your response! Would it be possible to resolve the issue without having to wipe the HDD?

Thanks again! So, when I changed to IDE from AHCI in my BIOS, the following error came up before Windows was able to boot:

My PC then went into a loop restarting itself.

I've since unplugged my new SSD, changed the SATA mode back to AHCI again, and I can now access all the files on my hard drive.

Would it be safe to try reconnecting the new SSD again?

I think error was just in relation to trying to boot the ssd in IDE mode.

have you formatted the new ssd yet or is it still blank?

There are some registry setting that you need to enable in Windows if you have installed it on IDE drivers. Just google "enable AHCi in Windows". Do that in IDE mode, then change IDE to AHCI in BIOS and boot up.

Why are you giving suggestions about IDE mode?
Windows already is installed in AHCI mode. That is correct option and it doesn't need to be changed.

I haven't been able to format the new ssd since it still doesn't show up in device manager OR disk management. I will attempt to make a partition using that boot drive method from the first thread you linked Colif. I'll be reporting back tomorrow as it's getting late here and I have to get up early for work. Nothing with the yellow exclamation marks. The new SSD isn't showing up anywhere.

You have to install Intel chipset drivers (inf driver) and Intel Rapid storage driver.

Sweet! That did the trick. New ssd is now being formatted. Kind of weird that my hard drive was being affected earlier though.
