hi there, i've looking on the internet for a solution to these problems without much success. so i decided to post this with some information that similar threads have ashed to make it easier.

so my laptop is brand new, the retail description was 512GB SSD and 1TB HDD.

problem number one:
i only have 465GB SSD and 931GB HDD.

problem number two:
the files on the SSD should tahe up 30GB on disk. but they are taking 43GB,
defragmenting has not helped.

i understand that you never get all the space but this seems quite a lot to lose especially on the SSD. please tell me hoe i can get the space back or if this a retail problem.

here are some pictures that were requested on other similar threads, hope they help:

That is not a 'problem. That is to be expected.

You're looking at a difference in how they are counted.
Base 2 vs Base 10
Computer vs Human
gigabyte vs gibibyte.

931GB is exactly what a "1TB" drive will read at.
You've not 'lost' any space.

You're almost certainly not counting quite a few things.
In your Windows Explorer window that says 29.5GB, that is missing the pagefile and...

In your Windows Explorer window that says 29.5GB, that is missing the pagefile and hibernation fole...the two large orange things in WinDirStat. That's 9+GB right there.

Solution
"the retail description was 512GB SSD and 1TB HDD - - i only have 465GB SSD and 931GB HDD"

There is nothing wrong with those figures - - they are correct.

Drive manufacturers use a different formula for expressing drive capacities compared to how computers report it.
Your computer is actually telling you the "true" capacity, not the drive manufacturer.
