SSD and suggested size for program storage

I am thinking about buying a SSD for my new build to use as a drive to store the OS for Windows 8 or 7 and a place to store main programs and use a hd for storing game data, video data, music, etc.

What size of SSD would be minimum for this?

You could get away with using a 64gig SSD, i know alot of people recommend a 120g drive though.

I personally say 240/256 if you can afford it.

I did do some Win8 developer preview on a 64 gigabyte and as long as you turn off hibernate(and quick boot) and reduce the page file. It was doable, just do not plan to install too much on it.

If you are playing games they take lots more space. Without them, 120/128 should be ok.

Nowadays, I think every PC should include an SSD period. They’re waaaaaaaaay faster and they draw less energy, but unfortunately they do cost a significant amount more than a traditional hard drive.

Those who have some extra budget laying around, I’d definitely suggest going with a 128GB Samsung 840 Pro or 256GB Samsung 840 Pro in combination with a 1TB hard drive. This will allow for plenty of hard drive space for storage while OS and application files may be placed on the SSD for that extra top notch performance.

My budget is as low priced as possible. I found a 120 gig for 123 dollars I am not sure of the maker, it is a Japanese brand I believe or a Crucial V4 SSD 128GB for 97 dollars . I live in Japan( American) so I really dont want to have to wait for deliever from Newegg unless it is a lot cheaper ordering from the states.

Is that a good price? What specs do I need to look for when buying a SSD drive?
