I was wondering if it's possible to use my SSD as RAM. I can try using the ready boost feature, but that won't render my SSD as RAM, it will use something similar to a page file and use virtual memory and not real time memory. I need 32GB of RAM and only have 16gb. I don't want to pay more for ram. I can use SSD space as ram but i don't want it to be cached memory like page file or virtual forms of memory like virtual disk space. I know of this software MSI command center utility which lets you allotcate some disk space from your primary ssd as RAM, not only lets you store programs in a portion of your SSD but also use it as RAM (dynamic memory or real time memory) for your programs. It also has a drop down box which lets you set which programs are allowed to access the SSD for ram. However i have a non msi motherboard and cant use that utility. Please would you tell me if there is a similar software which can do that.

I know of a RAM disk utility and offers people ability to render their SSD as RAM DISK or virtual disk space but doesn't allow it to be RAM. I want it to be RAM like msi command center offers. Any Ram disk utility except for InRAM can do it?

You do not say what your application is, that needs so much ram ? (Analysis and computation of a large matrix, perhaps?)

Any SSD access is MUCH MUCH slower than RAM access. This is why an app that needs a large pagefile is so slow. Using SSD as RAM will be unbearably slow. I suggest you adjust your software to run in the smaller amount of Ram that you do have. Or, use another solution that does not need so much Ram.

You do realize that an SSD is magnitudes slower than actual RAM. Right?
What application do you use that is requiring more than 16GB RAM?

Having the pagefile on the SSD would be no different than trying to manipulate the SSD into being RAM.

I think you're confusing things. This utility you talk about, most likely is ram drive. It uses ram so simulate Storage device.
Using ssd as (virtual) ram would be the same thing as placing pagefile on SSD.

Question from Ragahv : "MSI Command Center"

The board manufacturer will tie the software to their brand of motherboard. They do this so that you can only use that software on their brand of board. They imagine that their bundled software will give them a competitive advantage - people will buy their board because of the software they have bundled with it. This can be done by putting a signature in the BIOS, and having the software check for that before running. This cannot easily be changed or bypassed (but it is not impossible to bypass, either).

BUT DO NOT DESPAIR !! There are almost always freeware equivalent of whatever software you want, that runs on ALL motherboards.

What particular MSI utility are you looking for ? e.g. Ramdisk, SuperCharger, etc ? We can then suggest an alternative.
