Question SSD at randomly goes to 100% usage with low loads?

Jul 14, 2021
At intervals that are seemingly random, whether I'm in a game or browsing the web, my PC will go through a period of freezing and unfreezing on and off for about a minute. When this is happening task manager shows my SSD at 100% usage. But sorting task manager by disk usage will show that every task is using less than 1 MB. I have already disabled superfetch, disabled Message Signal Interrupt mode, and cleared my virtual memory. On other forums someone recommended to me to try and reduce how much I have installed on the drive, so I brought it down to 1.2 TB of usage and there was no result. This is happening frequently, probably at least once an hour. Should I abandon this SSD?

The SSD that is causing the problem is a Crucial BX500 2TB (CT2000BX500SSD1)

I'm running on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Version: 20H2
Build: 19042.1083

BIOS version is 5.17

Key is to discover what app, process, service is consuming SSD usage.

Task Manager is indeed one way of observing system performance.

There are two other immediate ways:

Resource Monitor (installed).

Process Explorer (Microsoft, free, probably needs to be installed).

Possibly buggy or corrupted software.

Try "sfc /scannow" and "dism".
