SSD blows PSU??

I was given the task of bringing an computer back to life that supposedly had 2 160 GB SSD drives one of which blew a PSU. This happen after a power failure (I know this is suspicious). The "experts" that work on the computer 1st told me this is what happened. I am not an expert but have 15 years of experience and have never come across this. (Of couse SSD's have not been around that long).

By the way, the case is an Antec 902 with stackable drive bays, each with it's own fan. If I stack the MOLEX connectors one on top of another, the PSU won't work. If I plug each fan into a separate MOLEX receptacle, everything works. I mounted a SATA drive and that works fine also.

My question: A new power supply has been installed but I am fearful of installing the SSD's for fear of blowing another PSU. Any opinion on this?? I would really like to see if I could recover the data on the SSD's.

Thanks much

You should look at the power supply to see if it has two separate 12v power rails, or it is combined.
The likely cause is because you had two many devices connected to one power rail of the 12v supply of the PSU.
Where you should balance the load or draw of amps and wattage across two 12v power rails of a PSU if it quotes and amp rating for each rail.

For such things as Hard drives, DVD rom drives or SSD drives.
As said any short circuit of a device, or a none working one where electricity is not flowing through the whole circuitry of the device, if the Psu is of good quality should trigger short circuit protection of the power supply unit used.
