Hey guys!

I have a 4 year old gaming laptop, Asus G74SX that I have sitting around unused since I have a desktop PC already.

I had Windows 10 on the G74SX and the sluggish boot times and application load times have prompted me to do a clean install but the problem still persists.

I am suspecting that the mechanical HDD have deteriorated and I went to look for the cheapest boot drive with a local PC builder. Is it possible for the mechanical HDD to wear out?

Specifications:
HDD - SATA 3 WD Scorpio Black 750Gb (2x) (1 - boot drive, 1 - storage drive)

Asus ROG G74SX Gaming Laptop:

Suggested boot drive (cheapest by local PC builder):
Adata SU800 128Gb SATA 3 SSD
Sequential read performance: 560 MB/s
Sequential write performance: 300 MB/s
http://www.adata.com/en/feature/410

Is the sequential write performance of 300 MB/s good enough compared to the WD Scorpio?

P/S: I have the 256Gb version for my desktop which has a sequential write performance of 520 MB/s while having the same sequential read performance.

The HDD always lost against SSD's. Bad thing about SSD is gbs per $.

so, from that 128gb, you're going to have a clean 100~GB i guess, and with the OS installed, you will have 80-70gbs free to use, Looks like a gaming laptop so, think going for a higher storage SSD if you want to storage games & the SO, if you're going to install just the OS then you're fine, but you're going to regret the choice!!

About how to replacing it, yes, its possible, search any videos from your laptop how to open it. But its easy.
