Ssd caching question

I am wondering if it is possible to use an ssd as a cache for a mechanical hard drive if i do not have an intel SMART response capable mobo and how can i do it.

Some Asus motherboards support this - I am doing it with an Asus P9X79 Pro boards.

Google "SSD caching" and you will see what comes up.

I'm considering an SSD caching setup on the same mobo...did you see performance gains, or did you do it with your initial build? Any other thoughts on it?
