SSD choice question

I've never owned an SSD and have decided to purchase one but there are so bloody many to choose I honestly have no idea where to start.
What makes seem to be the most reliable? Is it worth looking at models that came out a couple of years ago or has the tech progressed a lot since then? Is it a simple procedure or even a possibility to mirror my hardrive onto a new ssd or will I have to do a completely new install?

Samsung 850 EVO or Pro are the 2 best SSD's out there. I recommend the 850 evo. It is cheap and really reliable. You can use a migration tool to move your data from HDD to the SSD. However I recommend just doing a full reinstall of Windows.
