Hey all,
I'm looking for an SSD for my computer and I was wondering how I can tell if it's compatible with my mobo? It's an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2. I know the SSD has to be SATA compatible, but is there other compatibility issues I should be aware of? thanks!

Nope! As long as your motherboard has SATA then you should be alright. Like turkey3 said just make sure that it has a SATA3 or higher connection, if it is not SATA3 and is a higher speed, it is still backwards compatible and you shouldn't have any issues! :)
As long as you are running a modern copy of Windows or Linux an SSD is just viewed as a hard disk by the motherboard. I've put SSD's in Core DUO's before which are 5+ years old.

One thing to note, SSD's are smaller than normal 3.5" drives so you might need a special bracket for one to lock securely your computer's case.
