Hello,

I've a Kingston HyperX 3K SSD for some time now and yesterday it started malfunctioning, no software or hardware changes. Disk simply goes to 100% active but r/w stays a 0/0 and system freezes. It doesnt matter if cpu is idle or load it just happens 5-10m after boot. I proceed to reset and bios doesn't detect it till I do a hard reset (power off/on). I already tested it outside windows enviroment and at another pc (100% load, disconnects after, doesnt crash pc tho) same results.

additional information:
Using Kingston toolbox I see that the drive has around 9700 hours online, no SMART errors but every time this happens error happens (tried alot of things, 10-20 times) it counts as power failure,

Any clues on what's happening or I should just RMA it?

There's pretty specific information if it's being counted as a power failure!

The drive circuitry could have power problems, the motherboard could, there could be a bad cable, there could be a bit of conductive dirt that shuts it down intermittently. I would try a couple tests before returning it.
1) If possible, clone the SSD to an HDD. Now boot this machine from the HDD and put the SSD in another machine - if the HHD flakes out after 10 minutes, you know one thing. If the SSD flakes out after 10 minutes, you know another thing.
2) Minimal test if you can't do the above or before doing it - attach the drive to a different power cable, and to a different motherboard port with a different SATA cable. Look for connection problems first.

Can't clone it, it disconnects midway. I already tested as boot disk in diferent computer and also as secondary, same result. Will copy essencial data and RMA it probably.

Btw I read something about doing a full power cycle on it (leaving it idle just powering for 20m). Does that may fix this power shortage?
