I bought and installed a new Crucial MX300 SSD, but its not being detected by disk management so I can't reformat it (there is no unallocated space to create a new volume with). The new disk appears in BIOS, device manager and in Intel Rapid Storage Technology but nowhere else. I tried EaseUS partition master as well but it doesn't show up. I swapped cables, swapped SATA ports, tried removing all other drives and trying to install Windows on the new SSD but it isn't detected when trying to install. I also just updated my motherboard, but my other drives connected without any issues (including a new HDD), and I updated all the drivers I could find.

Is it a faulty SSD or is there something else that I could do?

Solution
If you have tried it in different sata ports, where other drives are working fine, then I guess it's dead.

Btw - is the drive being detected in Crucial Storage Executive?
[strike]can you first check your BIOS? find a section with "storage" related stuff, and check your SATA ports are enabled or not. check also to which sata port your ssd is connected to in your mobo. check your manual.[/strike] strike taht. you did say BIOS detected it. if you have a SATA to USB adapter, you can confirm if the SSD actually works.

Can you show screenshot from Disk Management?
Is the drive M.2 model or 2.5" sata drive?

It's this drive, SATA: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct525mx300ssd1

The issue is that there is no white bars, only my other 3 drives appear there 🙁

[strike]this sounds like a sata device controller issue on your motherboard. have you checked on your mobos support site? and updated all your drivers from there? can you let us know your motherboard name/model number?[/strike]

check if your SATA mode in your BIOS is in AHCI.

if your drivers are already all updated, how about try uninstalling the SSD. and reboot. it could be that windows did not install it properly the first time.

Thanks, its an ASRock Z370 Extreme4, I downloaded everything that had "driver" in its name from their website here

And my SATA mode is AHCI, and I have another SSD and 2 HDDs that work perfectly fine.

i dont know man. if you already have the latest BIOS and drivers. uv also checked if the other sata ports are enabled. and you already have a mx100 installed. i dont know why the mx300 wont install properly. like i mentioned before. if you have a sata to usb adapter to check on the ssd itself. or just return it to the shop.

Okay I just installed it, it's showing up in Good Health...

There was an option to sanitize the drive, which I ran because why not and now its appearing in Disk Management!!

Cheers for that mate :)
