I am rebuilding my computer by adding a Samsung 840EVO 1TB SSD as my boot drive.

The SSD shows up in the BIOS when I hit F8 for the Boot Menu along with my other drives, but it doesn't show up in the "Boot Priority" column, where I really need it, so it will always boot from the SSD.

For now, every time I boot the computer, I need to go into the BIOS and hit F8 to boot the SSD.

I've plugged the SSD's SATA cable into different SATA plugs, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've referred to the instruction manual but haven't found any solution.

I am running BIOS 0603 dated 4-14-2014.

Any help would be appreciated.

Solution: Unplug all hdd and ssd in your computer except for the new ssd that you added. Now open your pc and go to bios, your ssd is now alone listed in boot priority. Turn off pc re-plug all hdd or ssd the turn on your pc it will boot now to your new ssd.

Simple and it worked! Thanks!

Thanks! So simple. This kind of solution is actually what I grew up with, but apparently must have forgot.

I just fixed this.

The problem seems to be related (at least on the X79) to the fact that the faster cables are on a Marvell adapter. This adapter shows up as s0 and s1 in the BIOS, and does not appear in the BIOS as a selection when you operate in UEFI mode.
The solution was a two part one:

  1. Get the disk to show up in the first place
  2. Set that disk as the primary boot device.
For step 1, Open advanced mode in the BIOS and go into the CSM (Boot > Compatibility Support Module). Change the boot device control to Legacy OPROM only. (This makes the hard drive re-appear). you may need to save and exit and then re-enter the BIOS.

Now, you should see your SSD in the boot disk selection menu, but (most likely) you have some other drive erroneously in the throne seat for booting. On to step 2:

Step 2: Enter advanced mode in the BIOS and go to Boot > Hard Drive BBS Priorities. Now change your boot disk to be the top priority.

Save and Exit.

Reboot.

Win.
Thanks, this advise really worked to fix this exact same boot up problem trying to use a Sandisk SSD with a brand new Asus ROG Strix B660-A Gaming WIFI D4 that replaced a previous motherboard.
