Question SSD files gone after restarting computer.

I have a 64 Terabyte external SSD made in China that I got for free from someone else.
It didn't come with technical specs.
I am using an alienware windows 11 computer with a 4 terabyte SSD internal hard drive.

My problem is that when I copy files to the ssd then eject the ssd properly and plug it in again, the files are gone.
I have tried everything I can think of... The files are there until I restart the computer or unplug the drive and plug it in again.... then they are gone.

It's a safe bet that you've got yourself one of the many fakes being sold, thus the reason it was given to you. The other party foisted their problem off on you.

A real 64TB drive would set you back somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000 at present. Doubt very seriously someone is simply going to give you one of these.

No, you have a junk device, that reports itself as "64 TB".

Put that thing in the trash, preferably in the shredder first. We don't want anyone else getting their hands on it, and assuming it is a valid storage device.

Can get a 100tb one for $40k USD - https://www.techradar.com/news/this...dable-bargain-and-you-can-even-fit-it-in-a-pc and that is enterprise, not external.
So I doubt your friend give it away if its worth so much

You currently cannot buy a real 16tb external SSD or any USB drives larger than 2tb, at all. They don't exist. But if you look on almost any retailer now they show you ssd that are labelled 16tb, 30tb or larger still. These are all fake. Same applies for any USB flash drive bigger than 2tb...
