SSD for games or OS ?

So I bought SSD SATA3 250GB Samsung 850 EVO 540/520MB/s, I'm wondering if I leave OS on HDD and I place games which actually require SSD will I get that "performance" boost in terms of loading times, loading textures without shuttering which I have now (and it's confirmed that it's due to not having ssd), or OS need to be on SSD aswel ? I wouldn't like to throw 40gb into OS partition when boot time doesnt mean anything to me especially with fact that my pc works atleast 36 hours in a row.

Thanks.

Personally I would still put my os on the ssd as it just makes performing all tasks feel a little more snappy and responsive, obviously the main gain of putting your os on the ssd would be the faster boot times but since you mentioned that wouldn't bother you I guess it comes down to if you would be willing to sacrifice 35gb of ssd space.

Should pagefile stay on SSD or I should move that to a regular SATA2 ? Because I did had some problems on regular HDD and pagefile, although on 8gb system now I upgraded to 16gb.

Also I'm aware that OS should be on SSD for performance. But again, what performance we are talking about ? My software/games would be on SSD (especially software like chrome/winrar and many more), so I was wondering if I have everything what I need booting from SSD can I leave OS on HDD or there need to be established "connection" between software/apps and windows on slower hdd ?

Wow what the hell I'm asking :)

But okay thanks, I expected suggestion for leaving OS on SSD, just wondering for alternative since I'm not getting more then 240gb.

You should definitely put pagefile on the ssd even if you 16gb of ram. as you mentoid in your first post if you aren't going to be turning your pc off on a regular basis it would probably be best to leave your os on the hdd and leave some space open for other programs on your ssd, also leaving the os on the hdd would definitely not slow down programs on the ssd if that is what you were asking.

Since you have a 250gb SSD, you could install the OS, but also install a few games that you think will benefit from the SSD's read/write speed too. At the moment, I have my OS on a 120gb, and have only installed Fallout 4 on there too. Any other software goes onto my SSHD.

I guess I will test first with already installed OS and see is it good enough.

Couple questions though, appreciated help so far.

Can I put SSD near side of my case without mounting ? It's basically on bottom side in case, across belts from HDD. So I assume that it's gonna be a bit warm but not too much since there is like 5mm plastic separating 3 satas from this ssd. He is also a bit pulled from upper side due to cables so he is standing stable, he can't fall. But my concern is does he vibrate when it work ? And also how warm they get ?

Other then that what should I change in bios ? I saw that it's recognized on first bootup but I needed to go on work so I'm just wondering to tell my wife and complete that :)

Thanks for those tips.

Thanks, those numbers up there should be fine even though it's rated 540/520 I'm getting 30mb/s less in both cases but hopefully that is okay? I would go for another one eventually.

Should I put pagefile on hdd or change something ? I installed today 2x8gb 1866 Savage HyperX Kingston memory. I'm not sure should I change anything there ? I don't like seeing 100% on SSD when superfetch or some process is writting but I guess that is normal and it should work fine. Also I'm typing from fresh installed Win10 Pro, works much faster, it's like 5sec boot although I'm not gonna lie looks satisfying.

I did changed my documents folder to hdd, it's 15gb used from Win10 without updates, hopefully that doesnt increase ?
