I bought a new samsung 840 evo 250gb and installed it in sata 3 together with an old hdd that only runs at 3 gb/s in sata 3 (weird but okkay shouldn't be a problem right?).

The speeds of the ssd are not even reaching half of what it should perform.

I would appreciate your help.

For the ones asking my mobo is a MSI P55AG55.

Solution
Seems to me like your chipset isn't function properly with SATA 3 hard drives/ssd's
There is a few options.
1. a PCI-E sata 3.0 card
2. New motherboard
3. USB to sata 3.0 convertor as usb 3.0 (the blue ones) have 5gbps only 1gbps less than sata 3.0 (Hardly a difference in performance)

I have a i7-860 and 4x2gb corsair dominator ram sticks at 1600mhz with 8-8-8-24 time table.

I bought the drive yesterday.

Your system shouldn't be a issue.
I think the best option here would be to return it.
Even if the drive isn't faulty (Probably is) at least you can then rule out that it isn't the SSD.
P.S make sure you copy all the data on it.
Hope this helps!

I'm starting to worry that the problem is the mobo...

I connected them to sata 2 intel ports and get twice the performance so its ruled out that the cause is the ssd. It's Marvell sata 3 ports instead... good job Marvell I hope you hang yourself for selling this garbage.

even after doing all the firmwares and driver updates those marvell sata 3.0 were still working slower than the sata 2.0... guess I have to spend my money on new mobo and cpu... -_-
