I'm looking to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop I currently have a 128 GB Samsung solid state drive which performs great but it doesn't have enough space to store all of my programs. I am looking at upgrading to one of two options: one selling my solid state drive and buying a 1 TB hybrid drive or two keeping my solid state drive and buying an enclosure that replaces my disk drive to house a 1 TB mechanical hard drive. The mechanical drive I'm looking at is a 7200 rpm drive while the hybrid drive is only a 5400 rpm drive. So my question is will the performance of the solid state drive and mechanical drive be significantly better than the hybrid drive and if so will the difference be enough to warrant spending another $30-40 on the mechanical drive and enclosure?

I have a second gen SSHD from Seagate in my laptop. I don't see much of a difference. Also those SSHD's the SSD part of it is more of a Cashe than storage itself and is usually only 8-16GB in size.

I would go with the second solution. Keep the SSD and get a 1TB 7200 RPM. What kind of laptop do you have? Does it have eSATA/USB 3.0? If so that might be a good way to go. Just you will have to make sure the drive stays plugged in all the time unless you put non critial files on there

I have an HP 8470w and it does have eSATA and USB 3.0 but I would prefer to keep everything internal if possible.
