SSD HDD problems

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I could have some help with this, most likely simple but I need to get it out of the way. (I'm not completely stupid, so hear me out 😉 )

Alright, so I have a alright pc build, I can't be bothered writing it all down ( i know you can just go into properties ect) but yeah, I have 2 1TB hard drives and one 120G SSD which I always boot to.
I usually only have one HDD plugged in to use for storage and to run games off. But i used to just use the SSD to run my games off for the faster loading speeds, but kinda got over it, and would much rather 40G+ free space.

ANYWAY, to the point, the obvious answer here is that they are pretty old, atleast 1-2 years old, if not a little older, (one is older than the other) and they seem to be working fine up until a few months back, I'd notice random disconnected notifications from the rapid storage program, and I didn't think anything of it, and monday, it got really bad, I booted up, and i tried to change a download destination to the HDD, and then since then, it has almost died?

After a reboot, It told me i had to format it, and that it had 0 bytes out of 0 bytes available, then I can't remember what i did, but it displayed itself as NTFS in my computer, then whenever I'd click it, it would come up as F:\ is not accessible" and also "f is not accessible the file is corrupted and unreadable" which is obvious of what has happened, but I have no idea why this occurred, so I did the usual, googled it, found pretty much nothing, but something which sort of seemed like it would work, so I changed the permission, allowing "ME" to access it, which might have worked because the harddrive was then accessable. But then also, I tried a few chkdsk /f variations, sfc /scannow, etc, you get the point, and then I also used Advanced System Care to "repair" the disk, and then I rebooted, had nothing, then I rebooted once more after running another Advanced system Care repair scan, and then Chkdsk did its thing on startup and found oprhaned files etc.
Logged on, and the hard drive was there? but is extremely slow and yeah, pretty much dead, so I'm trying to recover as much files as possible, but I was just wondering if it can be revived?
and also, the other hard drive is pretty faulty too.. it has random disconnections too and takes about 10-20 minutes to show up in my computer, BUT that is obvious aswell, the sata connection on the actual hdd, the plastic that keeps the pins safe, as been pulled off with the sata cable, and one or two pins have bent, which before you say "treat it with respect" 😉 I am extremely gentle and I never do anything wrong, it just randomly happened. I have a easy access sata point which it sits in nicely so I don't have to worry about the cord falling out constantly.

while I'm here..
Sometimes when i boot, my computer wont post, it just gets stuck on "loading windows" this is when I either have, one hard drive in, or two.
When I have one in, it rarely happens, but with two it always happens.
This to me, looks Psu related? but I have a XFX PRO850W psu, which I'd think would be enough..

so anyway, this will probably be "just buy a new harddrive" which I am going to do, but just wondering, :)

Thanks guys, and good luck! :)

Solution
Well, that's a mouthful.

The two-hdd boot issue may be that it's trying to boot off of one of the HDDs. With both hdds attached, boot to BIOS and make sure that the SSD is selected as the boot device. See if it will work.

Second, it sounds like you have two failing hard drives and one of them is physically damaged. As far as I know sata cables don't have pins; can you give more detail about what kind of cables and pins?

EDIT: OK, it has pins. But unlike PATA where they stick out and can easily be bent, SATA pins are bonded flag to the plastic of the connector. I can't imagine accidental damage to them.

I'd focus on recovering any data that I need. Buy a new, blank HDD and boot the PC with the SSD attached to SATA port 1 and...

I'd focus on recovering any data that I need. Buy a new, blank HDD and boot the PC with the SSD attached to SATA port 1 and the new HDD to port 2. Partition and format the disk. That's where you are going to try to save the recovered files.
Now download and install recovery software like Recuva or EASEUS data recovery. Attach one of the HDDs to the system (while it is turned off), then use the recovery software to try to get files back and copy them to the new drive.

The fact that both of your HDDs are failing concerns me. It's either a major coincidence or there is something else wrong with your system that is causing the problem.

I have the SSD set to the main boot, but does plugging in another Drive cause it to overwrite the main boot and wait for your input?

Yeah, and luckily the faulty HDD is not the one with the broken plastic/bent pins, it's the one that works fine haha. lucky.

I have got pretty much everything off already, I just need to purchase the new drive.

Yep, it's strange, I haven't noticed anything bad with my system, all seems fine, apart from my SSD having random freezes, and windows explorer crashes, which I'm not sure if they are HDD related or? I have never really just used my PC with only the SSD plugged in, which I should probably do that before I start firing off questions in all directions but yeah, just as a bit of info for you I guess 😛

Thanks Knott.
