I have never had a SSD before and I am looking to upgrade to this https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/data-storage/solid-state-drives/samsung-970-evo-m-2-internal-ssd-500-gb-10182003-pdt.html

Will it fit into this https://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigabyte-b360-hd3-intel-b360-s-1151-ddr4-atx-motherboard?gclid=CjwKCAiA1ZDiBRAXEiwAIWyNC3mV3gZsC9EQDe2T1MyMk3Sl_m8prjZg5KhEhN7qcerzKE6jinpthhoCzF4QAvD_BwE

If it does fit, is it as simple as plug and screw in then play?

I would like to put my operating system and everything from my current HDD to my new SSD, I will trim it down in regards to size so it fits.

I have no idea how to transfer over, would anyone be able to explain to me in the easiest terms possible thanks.

Kind regards,

Lea

Hi,
Thanks for the price it's much cheaper. I have 1 TB HDD and I have trimmed it to 411GB with the rest free space. I am a total PC noob, trying to learn.

So when I get the SSD do I plug and screw it in when PC is turned off, then turn it on and then go to this website
https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/970evo/

After that I am totally stuck in how to install it correct and then transfer OS and games etc to the new SSD from old HDD.

P.S Curious what this means * TBW: Terabytes Written
* Warrantied TBW for 970 EVO: 150 TBW for 250GB model, 300 TBW for 500GB model, 600 TBW for 1TB model, 1,200 TBW for 2TB model.
* 5-years or TBW, whichever comes first. For more information on the warranty, please find the enclosed warranty statement in the package.

Does it mean if I get a 500gb version, I do not get to use the full 500?

Kind Regards

Download the samsung software now, and install it before you put it in.
The 500Gb won't be 500GB it will be about 465GB but you will not want it that full, you should then split it up between HDD and SSD. Things you want loading fast on SSD and things you don't mind being a bit slower (as it is right now) on HDD
What you could do is make a second partition on your HDD now, move everything over you don't need on your SSD then when you put your SSD in you can clone C drive, and your "stuff" is stored on D drive (the new partition on the hdd)

Ah I understand, you did it.

So if I stick to 420gb of my SSD and not use the full 500GB I can keep the SSD running at max performance, can I use 420gb as my limit?

Thanks for your help, and you're my solution
