SSD in eSata Dock: Trim?

Would anyone know if trim will work on an SSD installed in an external esata dock under Win7?

I'm pretty sure garbage collection will come into play, but it would be interesting to know if the trim command is passed down to the dock. I have an Asus P8P67 Turbo Pro 3.1 mobo.

I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

there is no difference between esata and SATA (other than the ends of the plugs). the computer sees them the same. all the "dock" is is a SATA plug and external power. I cant imagine why it wouldnt work

I hear ya... same thing I supposed... but it would be nice to know for sure.

Trim will work just fine.

RANT WARNING: The following text is a rant.

eSATA and SATA are not fully compatible, and the difference is not only the plug. Using one of the very common SATA-motherboard to eSATA-case back adapters introduces a risk.

The voltage specifications for SATA and eSATA are different. Technically, there should be a buffer chip in your eSATA dock to translate the signals from the eSATA specification to the SATA specification that your drive needs, and the same applies to the motherboard side.

The specifications overlap, and this odious kluge usually works, but it is a failure just waiting for the right moment to happen.
