Hello!
thank you for your time looking at my issue. it is not really an issue, but i would need quidance and reassurance.

Here is my Asus x552c laptop. I have read a few topics, apparently we are good to go with SSD -please doubt me if im wrong.... So, i went on hddcaddy and i think i found the right one for me here.

Silly question one: even tho it says Asus X552CL HDD Caddy, will it work with my X552c?
Silly question two: is it a big job to do if i took it to a shop near by? and what would they charge ish?
And again a bit of a reassurance: will it really worth the benefits? And which one should i be looking at?
i am thinking of either or:
1- Samsung SSD 850 EVO 2.5-Inch 500 GB Solid State Drive
2- Samsung 840Evo 250GB SSD

I have already upgraded this a bit,got 8GB ram in it and there is another 4 to go in soon. I used to play a lot (when i had the time) and this is a decent little machine, however now i need it for hardcore work with photoshop and its family.

Please could you guys advise me what would be the best route to go down?

Thank you.

First... SSD will be so much faster, it is worth it.
Second... 8GB RAM is plenty. I am not sure how you are going to add another 4GB but regardless, the benefits from SSD will outweigh any RAM upgrade.
Your laptop has a standard HDD so any SSD will fit in it. Just decide how much capacity you need (500GB vs 250GB) for the SSD.

Now you will have to figure out how to migrate from 750GB HDD to a smaller SSD. I have used "Migrate OS to SSD" but that is a paid solution.
I have also created recovery media from the PC to an external drive and then used that media to rebuild an SSD. It just depends on how you want to do it and what you need to keep.

thank you for your reply :)
my laptop originally came with 6GB RAM (3x2GB) i have upgraded 1 slot to have 4GB and the other 2 is planned too so i could have 12GB RAM... If you say it doesnt worth it id get something else then... :)

did you mean that i would have to lose my 750GB HDD to fit an SSD in? can i not fit it instead of an optical drive?

i basically want to keep all my software and game data/installs like blizzard games which takes about 100-*150GB and Adobe Installs as where i live there is poor internet connection it would take long time to get everything back where it was.

could you please recommend any SSDs? or would the ones i was looking for be good for me?

thank you

How much of the 750 GB drive are you using? If you are using say 200GB then you can get the 250 GB SSD and clone your current system to it (depending on OS this can be easy or it can require third party software like the Migrate OS to SSD I mentioned). Then the HDD can be put into a USB enclosure or installed in place of the CD/DVD drive (usually requires a kit) and used as storage. If you have say 400GB used then you have a choice:

1. Buy a 500GB SSD and clone the HDD to it
2. Build the 250GB SSD as your boot drive and install the HDD as a second drive in the CD/DVD bay.

Option 2 will require more work as you will have to re-install your Adobe software and games, etc. but you can access your files and saved games from the HDD.

If you have more than 500GB then of course option 2 above would be the only way to go.

Samsung SSD are a good choice, so I would go with one of the ones you mentioned.

Thank you for your reply. I am actually using almost all the 750GB but at least 500GB. If I planned well I would have wanted the ssd to run os and softwares, get the original hdd just as a storage, but not external in the optical slot and buy an external CD/DVD...

I don't think my hands are steady enough to do this sort of work so I'll have to take it in a shop...haha. I'm kind of looking forward to see the difference :)
