My Dell computer does not recognise my Kinston 480SSD when connected by SATA lead. I looked in the bios but it is not there but when I connected it to the computer it installed the driver and it appears in the 'safely remove hardware'. Any ideas?

Hey there again, John!

Since none of these work, I'd recommend you to try the SSD in another computer and see if it will get properly detected there. You should also check its firmware and make sure that it's up-to-date. The detection problem could also be the result of an outdated firmware.

Another thing you could try is test the SSD using a specific diagnostic tool which will help you determine the health and SMART status.

Let me know how it goes!

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, John!

I'd suggest you try to resolve this issue by resetting BIOS. It would get the BIOS settings back to factory defaults, so it might help with the proper detection of the SSD.
If that doesn't help, I'd suggest you update the SATA controller and chipset drivers from your computer manufacturer's website. Find your model there and make sure you have the latest hardware driver updates. Another thing you should take care of is the SATA mode for the port where the SSD is connected, you should set it to AHCI.

Good luck! Keep us posted! :)
