I recently got a new samsung evo 250GB ssd and I was wondering if I configure the IDE to AHCI in the BIOS after or before I physically install the SSD.

Hey there, @AYYLMAOBABY!

The most important thing is that you enable the mode before you start with the clean install of your operating system! Enable AHCI SATA mode in the UEFI/BIOS and make sure you have connected the SSD in the first available SATA III ports (6 Gb/s) on your motherboard. Another important thing to remember is that you need to unplug the secondary HDDs (if any) from the system while clean installing the OS onto the new SSD. If you have more than one SATA device connected at that time, you will most probably encounter the so-called OS confusion.

It's also highly recommended you back up your files from the current system somewhere off-site before you tamper with the storage configuration. Here's a helpful tutorial...
