SSD interface speed

Can someone explain to me the benefits of an SSD and the types of interfaces that are best? I understand some SSDs connect differently to the mobo. Is it worth getting an SSD if it connects to the same SATA 3 as a HDD or will I not see the speed difference? Furthermore, I am confused by the terms interface and form factor. Can a SSD be connected by several different ways?

I am looking to build a new system and get a SSD for a fast boot os and for video editing programs. Thank you.

SSD's have 3 main kind of interfaces.

1) SATA like any other PC. Now to fully get the max speed it needs to be a SATA 3 port. You can still use a SATA 2 port and it will still be blazing fast just not as fast as it can be. You may not even see a difference in speed if you just do basic stuff on the PC and no gaming/big file copying.

2) Second is mSATA. This is mainly found in Laptop. It is just a smaller version of SATA but rather than using a cable there are pins that connect to the motherboard similar to how RAM connects with its Pins.

3) PCIe Drives. These are either big cards that go in a PCIe slot of a PCIe slot adapter that you plug a normal SSD into. You really on need the last one if you want the speed of a SSD but don't have faster SATA but most likely if your PC doesn't have SATA 3 it doesn't support booting from PCIe.

Get a Samsung 850 Evo and get the size you want. They are wicked fast.
