I recently built a new rig. New MB, CPU, RAM - the works. Installed all my hdd's into it including my 3 yrs old Kingston SSDnow100 128GB. But after booting the new system, the BIOS will not recognize that it's there at all. It states that the SATA port 1 (where it's located) is empty.
Every other HDD is registering perfectly.

So I put the SSD back into my old rig - and now that BIOS will not recognize that it's there either. (empty SATA port)

I haven't damaged it physically as far as I can tell. But it's just not appearing anymore in either PC.

So my question is: Has my SSD died on me?
And how?

I would be grateful for any help and/or suggestions.

I didn't reuse the cables from the old rig in the new one. So the error happens on two different sets of cables. I did of course have the same thought as you - so I did also try to change the cables none the less, and also the SATA ports too. But no change.
