Hi all. Please help if you can, but please read notes of what I have done already.

First everything worked fine on my old Win 7 AMD setup with my SSD OCZ Vertex 2 50GB, but since upgrading to my i3 4150 and intel board and re-installing I am getting a BSOD related to the hard disk / ssd.

Current setup:
CPU: I3-4150 Socket 1150
WINDOWS: WINDOWS 7 SP1 (Installed on the SSD)
BOARD: GA-H81M-H
BIOS: F1 (Latest)
GCARD: GTX 550 TI
RAM: 2X Kingston Fury 4GB DDR3 PC3-14200
Drive: OCZ Vertex 2 50GB (Windows disk)

The error is: Stop: 0x0000007&B (0xFFFFF880009A97E8, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000

Searching google found MANY issues relating to this error, specifically the ACHI driver, but the issues were not quite the same as mine.

What happens is the BSOD seems to occur from cold start boot, the BSOD shows, I reset and then everything loads fine??

So the issue is intermittent, and I am using the computer right NOW while typing this, and everything runs fine so far, speed tests of the OCZ vertex 2 all seem fine and everything shows in disk managment and BIOS.

Please note:

1) I cannot switch to IDE mode for this SSD, which seem to solve some peoples problem. The SSD is not recognized unless ACHI is enabled.

2) I have installed the latest drivers for my motherboard.

3) I have performed disk check / error checking on the SSD. No errors were found.

4) I have re-installed windows 7 THREE times, the same thing occurs.

Edit: 5) Forgot to add that I installed windows 7 on my raptor drive and had no issues with BSOD, it only happens on this SSD.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks for reading! 😉

EDIT: Corrected error code

EDIT 2: Added note 5

Hi there

Thx for reply.

Yes the setting was ACHI by default, the SSD did no even show on the install windows 7 list, so had no choice but to choose ACHI anyhow.

thx. dave.

OP said it only works in AHCI mode so he does windows set to ahci, and it is intermittent issue. AHCI/IDE issue is never intermittent.

Yes its the default one with windows, but i could not locate achi drivers i found it all a bit confusing? if you or anyone could suggest some drivers that are compatible for the vertex 2 series ssd would be gratefull, i only found drivers relating to the vertex 3?

As for the intermittent issue I agree with grandmaster, usually the wrong the setting in BIOS say to IDE for example would prevent windows loading at all, that makes this issue even more odd??

All worked fine on my previous setup? and all worked find with ACHI on my raptor on the new setup, its just the SSD on the new setup that this happens?

thx for replies

of course, i was thinking of 'firmware' sorry!!

yep i think you solved it - found the driver i completely missed it and i checked twice but must of skimmed past it...TWICE!!.... doh!

now i was meant to load these from windows install using thumb drive (can i use flash drive is that same thing?) but now ive already installed, is it possible to install from within windows??

the files contain system catalog, setup info and system files? how would i install from within windows is this possible?

thx for you help boosted1g i think this is the issue.

Ok alot happened...and not good!

I noticed the driver installed was the intel series 8 chipset which i found was installed with the infupdate driver from the mobo website, so technically did not need the ACHI driver as it was already installed with update package, but I went and installed the downloaded ones anyway, this turned out to be the same drivers (as expected) but the whole computer hung and never worked properly again after several restarts!? (thought the BSOD's did stop)

so I tried installing the drivers from boot / flash driver with new install of win 7...again got half way through installing windows 7 and hung again....

so I tried my old amd setup again with the SSD and installed win 7 and fine no BSOD or anything, even after several restarts.

The SSD seems to work fine and works no probs with old mobo but my new mobo just does not like the SSD? But the new mobo works fine with win7 on the Raptor 120 GB (which i dont really want on that) and also my 250 gb samsung??

This is so wierd...i dont understand this at all.

any more suggestions welcome (Though 'Buy new SSD' might be the answer!??)

thx. dave,

Problem solved.

Issue was as previous poster suspected, was the SSD playing up, though I can use it as a spare disk but even then it sometimes does not show at windows start, always shows in BIOS though.

Bought new 120 GB corsair SSD and the issue has gone away.

Thanks for the help.
