SSD Issue - "SYSTEM RESERVED"

Hi, I previously had just one HDD in my computer, it has Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium installed on it, as well as a lot of my personal data. I installed another HDD as well as an SSD (Samsung SSD 840 Evo).

The HDD is showing up fine, but the SSD (completely new, nothing on it) is either not showing up, or this random "SYSTEM RESERVED (E:)" drive is my SSD. This system reserved drive's capacity is 99.9MB and has no files on it, and was not here previously.

But my SSD is properly installed, because the Samsung software I installed off of a disk that came with the SSD (Samsung Magician) detects it just fine.

How do I fix this? Thanks.

Solution
Ohh btw, right click my computer, select manager, then select the disk management applet from the list and you should see your solid state hard disk show up, you can then initialize and format it. If the disk has not been initialized it will automatically prompt you for this the second you open the disk management applet. Once the disk is initialized you can then format it.

Okay, and just before I mess up anything, what exactly would I do for that? Would I just right click the disk and Format, or would I use any specific software? Thanks so much.

EDIT: You posted another message right before I sent this explaining just that, thanks :)

just right click the disk and format, the default options should be just fine. Just make sure its your solid state disk and not your hard disks. You can right click the disks and choose properties to get their model information, if you want to be sure.

I opened it up and it prompted me to initialize it, I clicked Okay but it seems nothing is happening and I still lack any new drives under Computer and SYSTEM RESERVED is still there. On the disk management, my SSD (Disk 2) says 232GB Unallocated, not sure if this means not initialized or?

That is exactly how it works, the system initializes the disk for use, you then must format it. I should have clarified that these are two separate steps. You just now need to right click on that disk and format it, you will then have access.

http://puu.sh/eQLTB/1493a47755.png This is my Disk Management window, on the top part (the listbox), the "SAMSUNG SSD (D:)" is my CD Drive, that's just the installation disk, so ignore that. The Disk 2 on the bottom part is my SSD. I don't see Disk 2 or any other thing that would be the SSD in the listbox, and right clicking the disks in the listbox is the only way I get the "Format" option.

He isnt deleting anything and I already mentioned how to identify the disks, he also has made it fairly clear that he has already identified it. Since the system initialized it then there are no partitions currently on it to delete.

Well there is no Format option when I right click Disk 2, the only time I get a Format option is when I right click something in the listbox on the top, and Disk 2 doesn't seem to be listed there.

Okay, I have the new drive now, but I still have this "SYSTEM RESERVED" drive.

That is normal, its the partition windows puts its boot environment on, just ignore it. If it shows up in My Computer that is a bit abnormal as it is usually a hidden partition. It is normal to see this in the disk manager though.

I actually believe it may be from my second HDD I just added. It's listed as a partition of that. I think it maybe because that HDD had Windows installed on it? I'm not sure, anyways, I was planning on formatting that drive to use as a backup / secondary drive.

Yes that would be the case, you should be able to remove those partitions from your second disk and then create a new simple volume to utilize the entire disk for storage. I recommend you remove the disk from your computer first, to verify that you have no problems booting up. When you have verified the disk is not used in any way you can then delete those partitions from it and reformat it.

I literally just added this HDD about 45 minutes ago. I only had my main one. I haven't touched anything, why would it be being used by something already? Thanks.

If that is the case then you should be just fine and be able to delete the volumes off of it. When you create a new simple volume it will use the entire disk by default and again the default options should be fine. I might recommend changing the label to "storage" or something just so you have a quick identifier.
