I have a hp laptop with 1tb hard drive, and i added and 240gb ssd to it by removing cd drive with help of a caddy.
The ssd showed up in diskmgmt before i installed new os in it.
To install a fresh os i created windows media creation tool and then using dispart i cleaned everything, installed os on ssd and it rebooted.
Now the problem is when it boots up its give error select boot device failed, i google search it, get a solution to enable legacy bios and disable secure boot. I did that but now it shows me no bootable device press and key to continue. I tried to change boot order in every possible way in both legacy and uefi boot order still same error.

I did perform hard drive test all passed.

Also i tried to install os on my hdd it works but on ssd i get errors.

I have backups, so no worries, but the bios just wont allow the ssd to boot

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Model for your HP laptop? An SKU would help us two fold. You might want to make sure you're on the latest BIOS update for the laptop. Also, you didn't need to use DiskPart ot format the HDD. You could simply format the HDD while in teh installation window where it show you the storage devices.

Once formatted, you could exit installer(without moving forward), power down laptop and then disconnect the HDD from the laptop so you only have the SSD connected. Power up laptop with bootable installer and then move forward with the installation of OS.

I think you should relocate the SSD to the original HDD location and have the HDD in the ODD caddy(if you're going to use the HDD for storage alone).

Have you tried temporarily installing the drive in the HDD bay and doing a new install? You don't need to format the SSD but if you do a reinstall of Windows 10 you can try deleting any and all partitions on the SSD first.

It worked after I swapped out their places, I installed the SSD where the HDD was present, looks like the bios won't boot from any drive on that other port, it's just for accessing storage. If u have any views please reply. Otherwise, now its working like charm.

Good to hear. Sounded like a similar problem I had. I did a clone of a laptop hard drive to SSD via a sata to usb 3.0 cable. Afterwards tried to boot from USB but the laptop insisted to boot from HDD. Luckily when I did the physical swap the laptop booted from SSD.
