Recently built a new system for the missus which has a Crucial MX100 250gb SSD as the main storage (we have a NAS for junk).

In my work PC I have a Samsung 840Evo which has managed to install some management software called 'Magician' - this software looks pretty slick and tells me how much data I've written and allows me to set space for overprovisioning and stuff.

Is this software actually useful to the operation of an SSD, or just a convenience? I've not installed anything for the Crucial disc at home yet, I'm wondering if I need to?

I have the MX100 256gb drive as well and I don't think it is necessary at all to run 3rd party programs to keep it running good. Windows has TRIM built in to eliminate leftover garbage, and if you wanted to go a step further all you have to do is run disk clean up to get rid of any other garbage.
