Hey guys I have a couple questions about ssd news and future technology.

I currently have an 840 evo and tbh as awesome as it is, I still want more speed. I know sata is going out the door and pcie express and m.2 is coming in, but in terms of speed and cost per gigabyte where are we going to be sitting for the average consumer in a year from now if you could guess.

Currently Id say its about 500mb read 500mb write and 50cents per gigabyte.

Im not as informed as I want to be in this area and any help would be appreciated.

You can get at least 33% faster write speeds with a Samsung 850 pro, but as far as read speeds the 840 evo is one of the fastest already.
As far as future we can definitely expect SSDs to get faster and significantly cheaper over the next three years.
After that who knows?

But there is definitely a lot of upside to this technology as far as speed and price.

As far as price declines I've seen these numbers a few times

Its probably a bit too good to be true, but a 500GB SSD for under $100 during 2018 isn't out of the question.
m.2 doesn't provide enough uniformity and benefit over SATA to win out.

I'd pin price/GB at $0.38 in a year, given that 3D NAND tech is starting to come in. In 5 years you can expect SSDs to put pressure on HDDs.

Performance SSDs shouldn't be counted into Price/GB. I don't expect the cost of these kinds of drives to decrease much as they continue to increase speeds.
