So, I recently did what I thought was gonna be a minor upgrade to my PC recently, I had an old 120gb SSD with windows on it that was MUCH too small for my liking, so I got a 1tb SSD of the same brand and cloned the old one onto it so that I didn’t have to deal with the hassle of reinstalling windows and all of those programs... and it worked fine, for a day. Until, I was playing battlefront with my friends and all the sudden I am using 100% of my cpu and gpu, so I get off and shut down my computer so it can chill out. But I go to boot it when I wake up, and I am met with “Insert proper boot device”

So, I go into the bios to see whats up, maybe the boot order got fudged, but to my surprise I only have one available boot option, my HDD, which of course does not have windows on it. But under boot override, I see both my SSD and my HDD, so my pc is still recognizing the SSD, but for some reason it no longer sees it as bootable? I don’t know what could have caused this.

I have done the following:

  • Ran in both UEFI and Legacy to no avail
  • Tried to use boot override to run ssd
  • Tried booting SSD from a different SATA port
  • Reinstalled and booted from old SSD (which successfully booted to windows)

After that last step, I could access the 1TB SSD and could see clearly, that all of the cloned files were still there and nothing had changed from before, it looked identical to my 120GB SSD. So at this point I am beyond stumped, I am currently creating a recovery usb off of the 120GB SSD and will be trying to use that on the 1TB

If anyone has any ideas, it would be more than appreciated.

the both have a os on and did you boot system with the 1 tb ssd alone after cloning leaving out the 120 out until system is fully functioonal and the 1 tb be seen as first boot device in bios should be apply .

Yes, when I was running the 1TB SSD yesterday, the 120GB SSD was not connected to my computer, I have also tried running without the HDD. But yesterday it was booting fine with the 1TB SSD and my HDD connected. Now it wont even boot with only the 1TB SSD connected.
