I have a 250gb Samsung 850 EVO in my system but i cant get it to appear in Disk Management. I have tried things such as changing the sata port on the mobo, installing the latest drivers and followed many suggestions on other posts but without any luck. I have also enabled AHCI Mode on my mobo.

(Disk 0 is main 1tb hdd, Disk 2 is secondary 2th hdd, Disk 3 is my printer)

Samsung Magician:

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys :)

Yes the third party program was able to detect the SSD and then let me partition/format it where disk management wouldn't. Now that ive used the third party one, disk management displays it...
Note the Samsung Magician program indicates the AHCI controller mode has been deactivated. Most likely it's a false reading because you connected the Samsung SSD to an ASMedia SATA port on your motherboard and while the ASMedia SATA interface supports the AHCI mode for some reason Samsung has a problem recognizing this. So assuming you connected the Samsung SSD to one of the ASMedia SATA ports (connectors), reconnect the disk to one of the motherboard's vacant Intel 6 Gb/s SATA ports. If you're planning on using the Samsung as your boot drive by & by, it would be prudent to connect it to the motherboard's first SATA port (designated SATA 0 or SATA 1).

Unless something else is amiss this should resolve the problem.

I've now connected the SSD to the first SATA 6 Gb/s port yet i cant see anything thats changed, im using the crappy asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard if that is a part of the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply as well!

I assume you've changed the SATA data cable for the disk. If not, do so.

And you've checked the SATA controller mode in the BIOS to ensure it's set to AHCI (should be the default)?

If the BIOS supports hot plugging capability set the mode to Enabled in case it's set to Disabled. Do this only for the SATA data connections for the three SATA connections to the current drives.

Have you checked to see if there's a BIOS update for that MB?

Really don't know what's causing the problem since the SSD's health is reported as OK by the Samsung Magician program. I'm assuming, of course, that notwithstanding the Samsung SSD problem, there's no problem with your system, i.e., it boots & functions without any problems.

I have changed the SATA cable, enabled hot plug on the HDDs and SSD, and checked the AHCI, yet still no luck. I've also updated the bios as it turns out i was stuck on a 2012 version and now im on the latest (2014). I really can't think of anything else i could try at this point. Samsung magician still says AHCI mode is disabled and the SSD still isnt appearing in disk management.
Thanks for the quick reply once again :)

I honestly don't know what else you can try at this point other than installing the Samsung in a different PC just to determine whether the disk is detected in that machine. And if it is (as I suspect it will be), what then? But if it isn't, that would be indicative that there's a problem with the disk notwithstanding the Samsung Magician report that the disk is "healthy". Probably a good idea to get in touch with Samsung tech support and see if they can shed any light on this problem and determine whether RMA proceedings are in order.

Thanks for the suggestion but after everything, all it seemed I had to do was download a different partitioning program (I've used AOMEI) and that detected the SSD an let me partition it. So basically, windows doesnt like me as far as i can tell

I'm glad it worked out for you but I'm really puzzled how a third-party partition management program was able to resolve this problem. Do I correctly understand you to indicate that that program was able to detect the SSD (where Disk Management couldn't and the Samsung Magician program reported the AHCI controller deactivated) and you were thus able to partition/format the SSD? And now the Magician program does not report any problem re the AHCI controller? Very curious to say the least. What was the partition management program you used?

Yes the third party program was able to detect the SSD and then let me partition/format it where disk management wouldn't. Now that ive used the third party one, disk management displays it correctly and all seems to be fine. The magician software still says that AHCI mode is deactivated which is puzzling me, even though the SSD is working correctly. The software I used was 'AOMEI' and it displays in a similar way to Disk Management.((https://gyazo.com/6c3063b1686bc6cdd5caffd8baec625d) http://www.aomeitech.com/aomei-partition-assistant.html)

Thanks for the info - interesting.
I use AOEMEI myself; invariably for merging partitions when the need arises but I've never used it in a situation similar to yours.

I assume you're planning to install an OS on the SSD by & by. Good luck.

Yeah eventually when i get around to it  Thanks!
