Hi Everyone

About 2 weeks ago I purchased a brand new Patriot Ignite 240GB Solid State Drive and installed it into my system. This morning, when I turned on my computer, my bios was no longer detecting my SSD.

What I have tried doing:

  • Swapping the SATA cable
    Unplugging my other HDDs
    Upgrading and Downgrading my bios
    Updating the SSD firmware
Plugging the SSD into another computer (Detected by the other computer until the computer is Reset/Shutdown)
Change the SATA port settings to IDE or AHCI
    Turned Hotplug on or off

I did notice that after repeated attempts of powering my computer on and off. The bios will eventually detect the SSD, but will no longer recognize it the next time I boot up.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to add; it would be of great help. At this point I am considering RMA.

System Specs:

  • Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
    Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz
    12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (9-9-9-24)
    ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8P67 (LGA1155)
3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (Gigabyte)
931GB Western Digital WDC WD1003FZEX-00MK2A0 (SATA)
1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20EARX-00PASB0 (SATA)

Hey there, kingdukla.

You've actually done almost all the necessary troubleshooting steps. You have a few other things you could try before you RMA it. Download the manufacture's diagnostics tool or a 3rd party SSD diagnostics tool if the manufacturer doesn't offer one and test the drive either on your computer or the one that it works with most of the time. You could also try another SSD of the same size with your computer if possible, to see if the same thing happens. Having in mind the SSD works OK with a different computer, there might be a problem with your mobo or some sort of weird incompatibility issue, so I'd suggest that you get in touch with the motherboard manufacturer's customer support and ask for assistance, before you go with the RMA procedure.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

As I mentioned before, the BIOS will randomly detect the SSD once in every 100 boot ups. I was able to download the Patriot SSD Tool Box and apply a firmware update.

Going to follow Boogieman's advice and get in touch with the manufacturer. Will report back soon.
