Hello i recently bought a Samsung 970 Pro SSD and i am having trouble installing it. I have a B150 Pc Mate motherboard. I have inserted it into the m.2 slot and my pc is not reading.

Because your board cannot use that drive.

It can only use a SATA based m.2 drive. The 970 is a NVMe drive.

your motherboard doesn't support that kind of drive. return it and get an SSD SATA drive

In addition to USAFRet's reply its important to remember that M.2 is not a type of drive interface, it's merely a connection and slot standard. As such you can buy SATA M.2 Drives, or NVME M.2 drives.

It's also possible to connect other device types (not just drives) to a system via the M.2 slot too.

As far as I'm aware there aren't any adapters to make an nvme m.2 device function in an m.2 slot that only supports SATA, you could however, get a PCIe card into which you can install an nvme SSD, then plug that into a free PCIe slot on your motherboard. There is still a chance however that your PC won't recognise the device in this configuration, you may need to check the board specification or contact the manufacturer for clarity on this. However, I am not in a position to recommend any such card because it's not something I have had experience with personally.

From what I can see you can still use an M.2 connected drive, just not an NVME one, to that end I'd recommend the 500GB Samsung 860 EVO SATA 2280 M.2 drive. It's a bit older which also makes it reasonably cheap. The 850 is a very reliable drive and should suit you well.

I'd avoid the Pro variants when it comes to SATA configurations because you will never see the increased performance benefits of the Pro series if you need a SATA variant, the SATA interface is just too slow.

I have bought adapter Smartbuy dt-129 from m.2 to PCIe x4 and IT RESOLVED MY ISSUE. Everything works fine.
