SSD not recognised after swapping cases

Hi folks

I'm pretty new to all this but hoping someone can help me. My son and I put together a build at the beginning of this year (parts list here: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/xbQKcc). We installed windows 8.1 on the SSD so as to boot from the SSD, with the HDD as an extra drive. There was an initial problem getting the SSD to boot correctly and we installed a backup windows 7 on the HDD just in case. Long story short, including a change to the RAM (thanks to me not looking at the voltage requirements) and eventually all was well.

I switched over to a new case this week and the SSD is no longer being recognised. If I attach the SSD to any SATA output on the Z97 mobo, I boot up to a post screen which is unresponsive and I can't get into the bios (initially on the Z97 started with SATA_3 0 but all the others as well; have also tried several SATA cables). If I unplug the SSD I can get in to the BIOS easily - but my windows install on the HDD is obviously not working and I get a 'diagnosing windows repair' that can't fix itself. Once I managed to get into the BIOS with the SSD attached, selected it as the boot option which went to a black screen and no further.

Is my SSD dead? could I have damaged it during the transfer with the wrong screws attaching it to the casing or something stupid like that?

Thanks folks

Sam

Solution
sounds like something got damaged in your case swap.

Try the ssd in all the sata ports on your motherboard, maybe one of them is bad?
Try the ssd in another PC and see if you can see it in the bios.

Otherwise, yes the ssd is probably dead.
