Hello,
I have a desktop computer into which I usually ssh, and today could not access it. Went to look at the system and it had some error about being a read-only filesystem and I could not use the keyboard at all, so I rebooted.
Upon reboot, it hung at "Verifying DMI Pool Data...", so I assumed this might be a BIOS/motherboard problem.
I then used the "load fail-safe configuration option", but that also did nothing.
I then took my computer apart and tried unplugging and replugging the IDE(?) and power cords, but to no avail; the device was still not listed in the boot order menu.
Thinking it might be a cable problem, I then unplugged my second hard drive (disk) and used those cables; it still did not show up in the hard drive/IDE list.
Then, since the power cord was used for both hard drives, I unplugged the CD drive and used both of its connectors (I'm not sure if the fact that all of these are interchangeable cables is useful information, but I might as well note it). At this point, instead of hanging at "Verifying DMI Pool Data...", it said "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK".
I also tried booting from a live CD (I didn't have my flash drive with me at the time), but that did not work; it got to the menu with my selection options, but neither the arrow keys nor enter key did anything. This might be a problem with the CD drive or the disk itself, so I will be going to a computer where I can flash a live version of Arch to a USB (I am currently writing this from my Chromebook). If that fails, I then plan to try to update my BIOS, but that is a more long-term problem as I am very busy and might need to start a project from scratch if my hard drive is unrecoverable (I was waiting on access to a Github repo for this one project and since my system is only a couple weeks old I very very foolishly had not gotten to backing up my data yet). Before all of that, however, I will be taking my SSD and looking for another computer to use it in.
Other potentially useful information:
The SSD is formatted to BTRFS.
I have been using this current filesystem/install for a couple of weeks now, with no issues similar to this.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R.
The SSD is an OCZ Vertex series 60GB SATA II.
If there is any other information I can provide, let me know. It may, however, take until tomorrow for me to respond, as I will be running around trying to find another computer as I mentioned earlier.
Thank you in advance.
