SSD not showing up in Windows Explorer/Libraries

I've taken an SSD out of my laptop so that I can reformat it and install Windows to it by cloning another SSD, but for some reason the SSD won't show up when connected using a USB 3 SATA converter cable? I have tried plugging the SSD into multiple computers and it hasn't shown up on any. Is there a special program/place I need to look at to find the SSD? Windows recognises that a new storage device is attached as it makes the connecting sound when it is plugged into a USB port, but then won't show up in Windows Explorer/Libraries.

Hey there, @RR4Life!

I'd recommend you go to Disk Management in Windows. Since it's a brand new SSD I assume, it should be listed there with a black bar and unallocated space. First, You will need to initialize the SSD, and then partition & format it from there. Afterwards, it should be visible and accessible through Windows Explorer.

It should show up though since it's already formatted.

Are you sure that USB/Sata device works properly?

I suggest attaching it inside the computer via the proper SATA and power cables.

The SSD had Ubuntu on it before, but I now want to put Windows back on it which is why I took it out of the laptop. The SATA to USB cable works fine as I have managed to get an old hard drive working with it on my computer!
