My favourite version of Photoshop Elements (2.0) refuse to save to drives/partitions larger than 1 TB. I have a 1 TB SSD for Windows and games, but I don't want to use that one for storing pictures. I have a new-ish 1 TB WD Black that I got cheap and use as an external backup drive, and I'm thinking if I should use that one for my pics or if I should get another 1 TB SSD? I would also store music on it.

I'm thinking that the SSD would feel snappier, but do you think SSD's like the Samsung 860 Evo would be good for storage? I will of course back everything up on a HDD so I won't lose anything.

Not a big problem, I'm just pondering and it would be interesting to hear what you think. :)

Update your post to include full system hardware specs.

And, as I understand your post, the thought is to pull an internal 1TB HDD from the computer and replace that HDD with a 1 TB SSD - correct?

End result being that the computer would now have two 1 TB SSDs: Drive C: Windows boot, applications and Drive ? to store photos and music.

Overall, a storage SSD is likely to be snappier but it is always a good idea to have a sense of the bigger picture (pun noted - incidental).

Configuration matters.

My PC has a 1 TB SSD for windows and games and a 4 TB HDD for storage. Photoshop Elements 2.0 can't use the 4 TB HDD neither as scratch disk nor saving on it. It can only use a 1 TB disk at maximum. So my plan is to either install a 1 TB HDD that I now use as an external backup disk, or buy another 1 TB SSD.

The PC is a good one, with Ryzen 3700X and 16 GB RAM.

Given that Elements 2.0 was released in 2002, I'm not sure if I would cripple my system to still use it.

But Any internal 1TB drive, HDD or SSD would work.
Much much better than an external.

I have Photoshop Elements 13 as well, but I really like the 2.0. 😛 I will think about it. It would be really nice with an SSD, and the Samsung 860 Evo seems reliable with its 5 year warranty and 600 TBW.

My main PC has 7x SSD's. (info below)
Combined, their total TBW doesn't reach to 10% of that 600TBW.
And this is a system that see reasonably heavy consumer level use, 24/7, for years.
Yeah, you even have two of the old 840 Evo. I tend to overpay a little to feel more safe, a little less anxiety in the back of my head.
