SSD or HDD? Does it matter?

I am working on gathering parts to begin my first pc build. My intentions for this pc are daily use and regular gaming. I am willing to pay for good parts however i am not made of money. I have read that SSD will increase start up and loading speeds. My only question is, Does it matter whether i get an SSD or HDD for an ASUS M5A99 FX PRO R2.0 motherboard and an AMD FX-8350 (VISHERA 8 Core) processor. Is there any correlation between what kind of drive I need and my motherboard? Anything would help, Thanks!

PS. Im really new to this pc building thing but I have always had a love for technology.

generaly a 120gb ssd for C: drive is sufficent for windows and then get normal hard drive for games and software

Do you have those parts already? Because this in not the best choice for gaming.

In general, go SSD for your OS and programs, and then get a decent sized HDD for storage of things like media, documents, etc. 120GB used to be the standard, but that was when SSD's had a huge price tag on them. The price difference between a 120GB and a 240GB is around 10-15 bucks, and well worth it. Theres little point in having a system boot in 10 seconds, if everything you do drags out because it has to pull everything from a much slower HDD. Not to mention having to micro mange every install to go to the non boot drive is a hassle, and some programs will outright fight you on it.

At this point I'd recommend going for a min of 240/250GB and consider a 500GB if you're the type to play a lot of games or have a bunch of large programs. As a casual gamer but someone who uses a lot of graphic and productivity software I'm running close to around 350GB. A 240GB is usually enough for most people, but given the size of game updates and patches (60GB update thank you very much Grand Theft Auto) that space can get chewed up pretty quick. Running a game on a SSD won't do anything for game play but it will decrease any load times. Which, really, is the entire point of getting an SSD.

As SkyNetRising said, the build you have isn't ideal for a modern gaming system. If you haven't already gotten the past, if you post what you're looking for and your budget I'm sure we can help setup a build.
