So trying to upgrade a family laptop as it's getting old, standard stuff replace the HD for an SSD, and yet it wants to be funny, I cannot get it to boot from either a usb install stick or once I've already installed a fresh copy of Windows onto the SSD and installed it, it still does not want to play ball. Basically it gets to the bios splash screen then just bricks, occasionally I get to see the windows logo, it reboots too.

Works fine with the standard HD but refuses to boot with the SSD, the SSD pulls an extra 0.7A over the HDs 1.0A, I've tried using secure boot on / off, legacy on / off, TPM hidden / available (these are the only settings I have access to rly in the bios), any ideas?

If you install Windows on a drive for a particular PC, call it PC #1, then Windows is setup with all the drivers and such that were applicable to PC #1, and EXPECTS that particular machine.

If you then move that drive to PC #2, then it might work. Or it might not work at all. Or, most likely, it will become unstable and unpredictable, and you'll be chasing strange bugs forever. Because that drive had a fresh install of Windows for PC #1, when you install that drive on PC #2, the drivers are being loaded for PC #1, which will not work for PC #2.

and yes you can't install windows on another system and then install to this laptop
Not sure what your on about with windows. I can totally install windows directly onto any drive and then move that drive to another PC? Or are you on about something else? Laptop is a 15-BW024NA HP.

you can, except it just won't run/boot on a different pc
How come? I've had no issues when I worked in the IT department in my old job just burning windows to SSDs and throwing them into laptops with windows on the SSD. Is this to do with the tpm stuff and such I don't know much about it other than it uses private key encryption? Either way what's happening is regardless of if I use a windows USB stick or the new SSD with windows on it (or not) or even the old HD which still gets into windows I cannot install windows onto the machine it just bricks or dodges the USB, like for instance just now, TPM disabled, legacy on, secure boot off. It saw the windows splash screen (logo) for the install page (I can tell because poor resolution) and then it just restarted the pc and booted into windows. Wth?!

All issues are currently pointing towards something in the BIOS stopping me from installing, as I've tried 2 separate install sticks in the 3 USB ports, both new SSD and old HD, I cannot successfully get into the installer for Windows at all

Hi, I made a quick Video and uploaded to YouTube, this is like 1 of 10 different behaviours it's been having trying to do this, litterally last boot before it posted to windows doing this exact same thing, objective is to freshly install windows

Doesn't it install drivers and such though during the second part of the install though? On PC number 1 after you've chosen what partition the install will be on and it's installed the main windows files it restarts once and starts to run on the storage device rather than the install usb, if you don't let it restart say by having your USB as the first boot device or just turning the PC off once it's shut down before it boots back up fully and carry on the second part of the install once it's plugged in to PC number 2, then as far as I'm aware all important hardware drivers are yet to be downloaded, no?
