SSD question - Samsung 840

I just bought this SSD (Samsung 840) from Newegg for $99.99:

...only to find out that there was another model for $1 more which came with an extra "installation kit":

What is in the installation kit? Should I try to switch my order to this one (and if so, how do I do that), or does the installation kit not really matter?

Well the installation kit includes SATA data and power cables (those are also included with the motherboard), screws (those are also included with mobo), a 2.5-to-3.5-inch adapter bracket (99% chance those are included with the case), and a SATA-to-USB adapter cable (really no need for that). The kit also contains a mounting spacer so its slim 7-millimeter profile will work with slim Ultrabook designs as well as with laptops with traditional full-height 9.5-millimeter drive bays (only useful if you intend to use it in a laptop).

So in short, the "installation kit" is really only if you are putting it in a prebuilt computer that doesn't have all the accessories that are included standard with motherboards.

upto you really, it doesn't matter, there are no moving parts. I just used velcro on a flat surface and stuck it there. Mounting bracket would have been nice, but im happy with the way it turned out with just velcro.

Actually, don't I need the SATA to USB adapter cable if I want to transfer my copy of Windows from an old 500gb HDD to the new SSD? How could I do this otherwise?

You CANNOT transfer an operating system 🙁

It would, however, be very useful for transferring files and applications... You can pick one up cheap though

I hope you're not getting confused. The idea of an ssd is to have it as your main drive with the operating system reinstalled on it.

The usb accessory is only good for if you want to turn your ssd to a portable storage device which is an expensive alternative compared to mass storage devices ranging in the terabytes designed for this reason and you wont be getting ssd's speeds through usb connection either.

Out of the kit, you'll probably only use the bracket and the red sata cable for convenience. The usb connection might be handy but i doubt you'll ever use it.

Oh, I didn't realize that was the function of the SATA to USB. I read some reviews of the kit and I saw a lot of comments saying that it was really useful. Oh well, I already ordered it, but it's only an extra dollar or two anyway.

could use it as another boot device using usb connection on another computer, that would be another use for it. Enabling boot priority through the bios to load from the hdd using usb.

Portable operating system and games, dunno how it would go with drivers for another computer entirely though but have read of a means to do that if im not mistaken.
