Question SSD Reaching 100% Utilization Causing Freezing

For the past month, my computer has been freezing for a couple of seconds every 2-3 minutes. I noticed that every time it froze, the SSD would reach 100% utilization. I tried updating my bios, updating drivers, turned AHCI Link Power Management to active, and set Turn off hard disk after to NEVER. However, the problem persists and seems to be getting progressively worse.

Specs:

HP SSD S700 120GB
1TB HDD
Ryzen 5 1600
ASUS B350 PRIME-PLUS
8GB 2133MHz Ram
Gigabyte RX 580 4G

Thanks.

How full is your 120gb ssd?
If it is near full, the ssd will have a terrible time trying to do a simple update and will take time to recover space.
Past that, the ssd will rapidly lose it's capability of doing any updates at all.
My SSD has 27.4GB of space left. Is this a problem?

I freed up 3GB worth of space on my SSD, and I haven't froze all day today! I didn't realize that limited space could cause such poor performance. Thanks so much, I greatly appreciate it. :)

Good job.
I am a bit surprised that 3gb made that much difference.

SSD devices vary on how much free space is built in and how well the controllers can manage andfree up free nand blocks.

I really think it is time to upgrade to a 250 or 500gb ssd.
I like Samsung EVO best, they seem to perform a bit better and are a bit more trouble free.
The Samsung ssd migration app makes it trivial to move your windows C drive.

I too think its about time to upgrade to a larger SSD. I'll be on the hunt for some nice deals. That freezing problem was getting quite frustrating, and I can't thank you enough for the advice. Have a good one! :)
