Question SSD recognized but not bootable

My CPU died and so I bought a new mobo and cpu. I'm hoping I can use my old ssd to continue to boot instead of reinstalling windows. The BIOS can see the SSD, but I cannot boot from it. I have tried changing to CSM/legacy mode and it lets me select the ssd as a drive to boot from but then says "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected book device and press a key." I have disabled everything I can find in the BIOS that is related to booting (fast boot, secure boot, etc). I tried creating a windows installation usb and I can get into that but if I try to do "startup repair" it says: "startup repair couldn't repair your pc. press advanced options to try other options to repair your pc or shut down to turn off your pc. log file: " but there is nothing after the log file.

I really really really don't want to reinstall windows. Is there anything else I can try? Any ideas about what might be causing this?

just to close this out - I was an idiot and forgot that my ssd with windows was actually a m2 drive that was still plugged into my old motherboard. Once I plugged that into the next motherboard, it was immediately recognized and booted into windows with zero problem. so yeah, user error and problem solved.
