Hey!

I got a big problem with my 240gb SSD
It used to be in my Dell workstation before and i just removed it to boost my tower.
So the problem is this:

It have a win10 pro installed on it but obviously i want to delete all data from it. Deleting not works because it says it needs admin privileges. Fine... then I format it. It's going well with both quick and normal format through manager and diskpart, BUT when the format completes the files still there nothing changed. through diskpart It's a bit different. Everything is okay till CLEAN but after clean i supposed to create the main partition (create partition primary) but when i hit ENTER the following problem pops up: The drive don't have enough space to make a partition so either way the files are not deleted and everything remains still.

Thanks for every little help .

And to give a clean example i did what logainofhades mentioned and this is what happened:

Disk 3 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> list partition

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Primary 50 MB 1024 KB
Partition 2 Primary 223 GB 51 MB

DISKPART> select partition 2

Partition 2 is now the selected partition.

DISKPART> delete partition

DiskPart successfully deleted the selected partition.

DISKPART> list partition

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Primary 50 MB 1024 KB
Partition 2 Primary 223 GB 51 MB

So as i mentioned...It happens and going well in the outside but nothing happening in reality.

I think u wanted to see this.

These attributes indicate that the drive has begun to degrade:

Code:
05 100 100 _50 00000000002B Reallocated Sectors Count
A0 100 100 _50 00000000003F Uncorrectable sectors count when read/write
B2 100 100 _50 00000000002B Runtime Invalid Block Count
C3 100 100 _50 0000000E4D1D Hardware ECC Recovered
C4 100 100 _50 00000000003F Reallocation Event Count
C5 100 100 _50 00000000002B Current Pending Sector Count
C6 100 100 _50 00000000003F Uncorrectable Error Count Off-line

This area of the SMART attribute dump tells us that your SSD is based on Silicon Motion's SM2258XT flash controller. I think IM00 is the type of NAND flash.

Code:
180: 00 00 53 30 32 32 32 41 30 20 30 30 00 00 00 00  -> S0222A0 00 - firmware
190: 53 4D 49 32 32 35 38 58 54 00 00 00 00 00 00 00  -> SMI2258XT - controller
1A0: 07 9F 02 00 07 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 EF EF
1B0: 08 00 00 49 4D 30 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00  -> IM00 - NAND flash?

I don't recognise anything in your SMART report that would suggest that your drive is in read-only mode, so I'm out of ideas.

The only thing that looks out of place to me is the raw value of 0x666665E (= 107,374,174 in decimal) for these two attributes:

Code:
A1 100 100 _50 00000666665E Number of Valid Spare Blocks
E8 100 100 _50 00000666665E Available Reserved Space

I can only imagine that this number is encoded is some way that I don't understand, otherwise it's absurd.

You could try to write zeros to the first few sectors, or a secure erase. That should wipe the partition information, unless the drive really has become read-only.

Was this disk encrypted in some way?

Perhaps grab a copy of partition wizard bootable.
Boot it up and see what it thinks about this disk.

Code:
180: 00 00 53 30 32 32 32 41 30 20 30 30 00 00 00 00  -> S0222A0 00 - firmware
190: 53 4D 49 32 32 35 38 58 54 00 00 00 00 00 00 00  -> SMI2258XT - controller
1A0: 07 9F 02 00 07 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 EF EF
1B0: 08 00 00 49 4D 30 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00  -> IM00 - NAND flash?

''You could try to write zeros to the first few sectors, or a secure erase. That should wipe the partition information, unless the drive really has become read-only.''

How should i write zeros to those sector and what you mean by secure erase? The drive was read only but i removed that first when i tryed to solve the problem myself.

Okay.
I zeroed the full SSD i checked phisical switches,etc,replaced the cables and plugged it to other sockets, i checked the bios settings too but still nothing works
I feel sad about things. Not bout the drive, thats not a big deal. It's very frustrating. Imean..... I enjoy solving problems but right now nothing helps as things stand.

I was curious about those crazy raw values for attributes A1 and E8, so I found several good Transcend SSDs with those same attributes.

AISI, attribute E8 should be 0x64 (= 100 decimal) for a good drive. I think this is reporting the percentage of spare sectors that are left.

Attribute A1 appears to be reporting the number of spare sectors that are left.

In the present case both numbers are absurd, so I suspect that the firmware has hit an unresolvable snag. The result is that the firmware then switches to read-only mode to protect the user's data ... I think.
